Big Bite Sugar Rush Recap
Big Bite Sugar Rush Cakes, Confections and More
I was invited to get a sneak peek opening day and freshman year of Big Bite Sugar Rush last weekend at the OC Fair and Events Center in Costa Mesa. The first annual event was held over 2 days featuring everything from cakes and Italian Ice to confections and cool demos. Here's a bit of what I tasted from several amazing vendors in the greater So Cal area.
There was much to see and do at the first annual event and there were more hits than misses. Here are several of my top picks from the day.
Light and Healthy Desserts serving the greater OC with it's location in Irvine. Okay wait what? Healthy desserts? Yep, and they truly know their stuff. I was blown away by their truffles and madeleines, the tastes were so pure and the ingredients all came through so clean. Looking for guilt free handmade freshness, look no further.
Pound cake anyone? Head to Orange Clementine for the perfect pairing of sweet and moist. They use only California grown lemons and oranges in their cakes and cookies. The packaging is just charming, making it a great gift for any occasion.
I'm a huge pastry fan so when I came upon Sunmerry Bakery's spot I was stuck! Everything was so fresh and moist and packed with flavor. This is a must visit when in Irvine for amazing treats and really great prices. I would recommend trying the Green Tea Croissant, soft and slightly toasted on the outside.
So what did we chase down all these yummy treats with? Dunkin Donuts coffee and a little bit of Latin flair with Frijolitos Mobil Coffee Shop. I am loving their clever theme and they make a killer Cafe De Olla. Latte more your thing, try their Mariachi Loco latte, so creamy and rico!
What I enjoyed at the event besides all of the samples was the time spent talking with the bakers. Listening to them you really got a feel for their passion in using better ingredients and the desire to have that love come through in their finished products. I can see this event only growing in the years to come as we all have a sweet tooth...or two right?
