4 Must Visit areas in Monterey for Wineries

Looking for a unique destination that caters to wine lovers set within a breathtaking part of the central coast? Look no further than the coastal communities in and around Monterey. Known for it's amazing coastline, quaint seaside towns and family fun activities, Monterey is home to over 70 wine makers along with it's famous tourist stops like Monterey Bay (and the aquarium) 17 Mile Drive near Pebble Beach and Big Sir with it's pristine coastline and loads of hiking trails just to name just a few. 

Here are just 4 places to sample all this region has to offer.  

Carmel by the sea offers a wine pass to their cities 14 wine tasting rooms. At $65.00 it entitles you choose 1 flight from 9 of the locations at your own pace. The wine tasting rooms are all within walking distance of each other making for a charming way to get to know the town more intimately. Also is a great way to build up an appetite before experiencing one of the many amazing eateries in town. Learn from the proprietors of the wineries the history of their wines, the processes used to create them as well as interesting town history only the locals could share. *Enjoy free corkage at participating restaurants as well, bottle must have wine walk sticker and 1 bottle per visit per party.

Most of the tasting rooms are kid friendly which won't restrict your tour. Besides all the amazing wines offered and the great conversations to be had, it's all within walking distance and the pass if you don't use all of them, never expire.  

Carmel Valley has a small but intimate amount of wine tasting rooms all withing close distance of each other and few offer private tours of their wine making process. From personal experience, Holman Ranch is an exquisite location offering 2 different tasting rooms and their own restaurant Wells Fargo.

Salinias Valley has over 2 dozen wineries and most have tasting rooms. Like Carmel by the Sea they also offer a "pass" that allows you several tastings for a set amount.

Monterey is home to about 45,000 acres of wine producing grapes on over 70 wineries. With only about half having tasting rooms, it is no comparison to Napa in this aspect but the experience and region more than make up for that. Monterey has so much more to offer than just wines making making it a destination for couples and families alike. Producing a variety of wines the region is half focused on Chardonnays.
