Celebrate the Spirit of Día de los Muertos at Disneyland Resort

Celebrate the Spirit of Día de los Muertos at the Disneyland Resort with Your Familia

Make memories and honor loved ones who have passed during this special experience inspired by Día de los Muertos beginning September 6th at Disneyland Resort and continuing through November 3, 2019.

From Last years Celebration honoring Coco and Did De Los Muertos

Having a mix culture family has exposed me to so many things! I love the Mexican culture, their food, language and the country. Having a young child I've learned the importance of being able to provide my daughter with the ability to identify with both her parents traditions, those from Mexico and America. Dia de los Muertos has been a big part of this while helping with her understanding of the circle of life in such a beautiful way.

We create our own alter to honor our loved ones each year, creating an amazing opportunity to reflect, understand and remember those who are no longer with us. This is the real meaning of Dia de los Muertos, to never forget and in doing so those we loved live on! It really is an amazing tradition, one I prefer over the typical sadness associated with death.

So what can you see and do during this limited time event at the Disneyland Resort? Enjoy everything from food, live music and singing to traditional treats and crafts the entire family will enjoy located in the Plaza De Familia within DCA and Frontierland's Zócalo Park in Disneyland.

  • The Árbol de la Vida, or Tree of Life: An interactive photo location where Guests are invited to to write down and share their thoughts of loved ones and hang them on the nearby wall of memories.

  • A Musical Celebration of Coco: Songs from Disney·Pixar’s Coco come to life via enchanting performances by the Grammy winning Mariachi Divas. Check for show times via the Entertainment guide. New this year, this charming troupe of singers and authentic Folklórico dancers is joined by Miguel, brought to life in a whimsical, hand-crafted style inspired by traditional Mexican folk art.

  • Love is Enternal: Revel in festivities inspired by Mexico’s joyous celebration of their loved one with a tough of movie magic.

  • A Seasoned Feast: Sample delicious Mexican dishes from the special event menu at Paradise Garden Grill. The Agua de Pina is so refreshing!

  • Coco exhibit: an exhibit presenting animation images that portray the Land of the Living and Land of the Dead seen in the film. Plaza de la Familia honors everlasting family bonds as well as Disney·Pixar’s animated adventure, Coco. This heartwarming tale tells the story of Miguel, a 12-year-old boy whose dream of becoming a famous musician leads him to unlock the generations-old mystery behind his family history.

  • Cars Land will feature an ofrenda (a remembrance altar) paying tribute to Doc Hudson (aka, the Fabulous Hudson Hornet). Look for it at Ramone’s House of Body Art, just down Route 66.

As you can see my girl wore a beautiful Tabasco style Dress we bought in Rosarito Mexico and she wore it with pride! I made the matching Flower Crown headband to match. Dressing up made her all the more involved and excite to explore all the Plaza had to offer. Everything except the food, she’s still not a huge fan of anything spicy.

Over in Disneyland Zócalo Park in Frontierland is adorned with an elaborate and colorful display in honor of Día de los Muertos. This immersive setting features beautiful marigolds and papel picado throughout, along with a traditional ofrenda, calaveras (sugar skulls) and a larger than life iconic figure of La Catrina. Delicious food can be had at the nearby Rancho del Zócalo and churros of course can be found throughout both parks.
