Top 5 Misconceptions About Liposuction

Top 5 Misconceptions About Liposuction

Considering Liposuction for a stubborn area (or areas) that won't budge with diet and exercise? Do you genetically carry fat in some areas even with the healthiest of lifestyles? Over weight looking for a faster alternative to cutting the fat? I'm debunking the top 5 misconceptions about Liposuction and breaking down what it really all means. It's not all cut and dry when it comes to the "dream" results one desires with Liposuction, expectations VS reality is on a case per case basis. Heard of these myths or though them to be true?

#1. Liposuction will result in dramatic weight loss

While it does remove excess fat from problem areas, it's impact on your body weight might not be as much as you would expect or desire. There is a limit as to how much fat can be removed surgically from the body at one time. Some fat cells are left after Liposuction and can increase if weight is gained especially if gained within a short amount of time after the surgery. A healthy diet and lifestyle is recommended to keep the results achieved from the procedure. What it will do is strategically shape areas of concern and by doing so create a more slimming look. You may even see a slight decrease in your cholesterol levels.

Before and after, fat is removed but some still remains.

#2. Liposuction removes cellulite

Liposuction won't remove cellulite. Sometimes by removing fat and smoothing an area, the appearance of cellulite decreases, but it is not always the case. Cellulite develops when the connective tissues beneath the skin that shape fat contract and harden, creating a lumpy cottage cheese appearance.

Might wanna lay off the fattening foods after your procedure, because it CAN come back.

#3. Liposuction will prevent future fat from coming back

Hold your roll there! When having liposuction done for a target problem area, it removes the fat cells from that part of the body. So, if you are predisposed to weight gain it won't return to the treated per say BUT it will be deposited to another parts of the body that are prone to fat accmulation.

#4. I'm too old for Liposuction

It's just a number! Age is not a factor with Liposuction as long as you have realistic expectations and discuss them with your surgeon. Underlying health issues, sagging skin that has lost it's elasticity are concerns and will be further explained by your doctor to determine if you are a good candidate and what options there are in those cases.

#5 Liposuction is only for Women

Not so fast ladies! Plastic surgery for men, in particular liposuction, has increased significantly in popularity and is no longer taboo. It can be an effective way to improve a man’s physiques with minimal scarring with a low rate of complications. The most commonly treated areas for men include the neck (double chin), abdomen, love handles, and chest (breast).
