VOLUNTEER FLOAT DECORATING INFORMATION

Easterseals Southern California’s float for the 2019 Rose Parade® will be decorated by volunteers. Two types of float decoration activities are available: “dry” and “wet.” Please consider time required for each activity before applying.

Arrival Time and Orientation

  • A minimum 4-hour shift is required for all volunteers on “Dry” Decorating Days.

  • A minimum 7 or 8-hour shift is required for all volunteers on “Wet” Decorating Days.

  • Volunteer shifts begin as early as 8 am.

  • Volunteers should arrive from 30 minutes to one hour before the start of the shift, allowing time to park, take the shuttle to the float builder’s warehouse and to check in.

  • The Fiesta Parade Floats supervisors will guide volunteers through a brief orientation.

  • ESSC will provide either lunch or dinner depending on the shift you are working. Water and sodas will be available; you may also bring your own beverages and sack meals.

Attire—Clothes and glue do not mix!

  • Old clothes are recommended because float decorating can be messy and you may get glue, paint and dirt on your shoes and clothing. The glue used to affix flowers does not wash out.

  • A baseball type of hat is recommended to protect your hair when working under scaffolding.

  • Bring a jacket as it may be cool in the morning and evenings.

  • Wear comfortable close-toed shoes.

Parade Float Assignments

  • Jobs are assigned as needed and many jobs do not involve direct application of flowers to the float. Jobs may include sweeping and cleaning, cutting and sorting, preparing materials and applying floral materials onto the float.

  • Remember there will be down time, particularly at the beginning of a shift and your patience is greatly appreciated. The earlier in the week you volunteer, the more there will be to do.

Volunteer Registration

  • All volunteer decorators will be required to sign a waiver

  • Passes are required to enter the Rose Parade facility.

  • After you register, you will receive a confirmation and further instructions.

  • Refer to the registration site for additional information.
