Weekend Getaway in La Jolla

Weekend Getaway in La Jolla

Weekend Getaway in La Jolla, it's closer than you think yet a world away!

Looking for a weekend getaway that won't require hours upon hours of driving or flying to get what feels like a world away from L.A? We stumbled upon La Jolla literally last minuet for a quick birthday weekend getaway last August, spur of the moment but we lucked out finding a great place to stay. We pass La Jolla on the freeway often but had never taken the time to explore this quaint beachside community, we were very pleased we finally did!

Literally searching up and down the So Cal coast for rooms with a view during the last summer vacation weekend for many was almost impossible, everything that looked worth shelling out the big bills for was booked! By chance I came upon La Estancia Spa, they had occupancy and the resort though it wasn't ocean front looked amazing balls! We stay at the beach often enough so it really wasn't a deal breaker, what we wanted was a nice place to stay that had everything we could need on property so we could actually relax during our mini vacation and not be going here and there for everything. This is not an easy task for us, seams like no matter where we go we are always busy running around so I wanted to make it fool proof! Mission accomplished!

About our accommodations: The room we stayed in was very clean, updated and comfortable with it's own balcony overlooking a central garden area. A nice perk was the bottle of complimentary wine that was chilling in our room and since it was leaked that it was my birthday weekend, I also received a sweet delivery... a box of chocolates and a birthday card shortly after arriving to our room. Bottles of Evian water and in room coffee were also at our disposal. We were also treated to complimentary wine tasting at their wine bar which was a nice extra bonus.

The Resort: Just stunning, I see now why so many wedding are held on the property. The resort offers a spa, a few restaurants, a wine bar and so many places to just sit back and relax. We stayed at the pool most of the time and ordering food from their bar area was easy. Being it was a peek weekend we made the effort to get there early to reserve lounges with an umbrella. They also have cabanas available at an additional cost. I will say there were many more children than I was expecting, which was a plus for my daughter. Such a catch 22 traveling with kids you want peace and quite but if you have kids you also want them to just be kids! So considering, it was a good balance. Now if you are looking for a couples retreat, just know there will be a few little ones here and there during the peek seasons I would guess. They also hosted nightly events which was a nice touch. The one night we went down was s'mores night, so my girl and her dad made S'mores for the very first time and I escaped the mess.

Sunny Cave, La Jolla Cove and Dinner at La Estancia all made for a perfect combo!

Around La Jolla: We avoided the town during the weekend because quite honestly, the parking is a nightmare, it was super crowded and really not what we were looking to do. We made the quick 5 minute drive there the day we checked out on a Monday and had no problem finding parking, didn't have to wait for anything and it made for a fun few hours before heading back to reality. We had breakfast, explored Sunny Cave via the Cave Store, went down and chatted with the sea lions at Cove Beach and watched all the kayaking groups explore the caves (we are so trying that next trip there). Loved the short time we were there and will definitely return. If you have any tips for our next visit, please leave them in the comments, would love to hear them!
