Horror Made Here A Festival of Frights at Warner Bros Studio Hollywood
Horror Made Here A Festival of Frights at Warner Bros Studio Hollywood
In it’s 3rd year, Horror Made Here A Festival of Frights at the Warner Bros Studio lot in Hollywood has made some serious headway in becoming a horror fans favorite during the Halloween season. This smaller, more intimate event is growing not only size but in following for good reason.
Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood dares you to enter their iconic backlot for an incredible Halloween party where evil clowns, demon nuns, super villains, possessed dolls and the devil himself will come to life. Be prepared to face your deepest fears and see what nightmares await you from the twisted minds that brought you IT, The Conjuring, Freddy vs. Jason, The Exorcist, and from the DC Universe, Batman: Arkham Asylum. Wondering if it’s worth your time and money, I have all the details.
I’m always asked which haunt is my favorite, well it all depends on why you go to haunts and what you are looking to get from them. What I feel works for Warner Bros Studios is their amazing lot, in house production abilities and props galore. Will this be a scary event for many? It sure will be, but for the hard core movie buff, it’s the appreciation of the set recreation, use of props and the interactions of the actors within the mazes and beyond that will check off their boxes. This is my 3rd year attending and I always look forward to it!
Horror Made Here, it’s more than just mazes! As you enter there is a street party buzz about this event centering around the main stage where live performances occur thought the evening. Store fronts are open for shopping, there’s an arcade for playing games and even a diner offering up a 50’s vibe and bites. For the 21 and over crowd be sure to check out the True Blood themed Lounge serving speciality adult beverages. What I like about this compact venue is that it creates a private halloween party atmosphere with scare actors working the streets as well as the mazes. This years theme is a creepy carnival filled with a variety of entertainment including a live DJ and performances on the center stage.
The Conjuring Universe: Big improvement from last years introduction of this experience. More than doubling its footprint, guests will experience a sneak peek into the world of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they confront a host of satanic spirits from The Conjuring Universe. Keep a vigilant eye on everything and everyone as to not fall victim to Annabelle’s devious games. Just know there is no escaping the demon lurking in the shadows so be prepared to come face to face with it up until the very end!
Take that camping trip you have always been dreaming of! Your final stop on the Horror Made Here Night Tour will leave you to fend for yourself at Camp Crystal Lake in the dark! Don’t let the calm blue waters fool you, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees are waiting and you will have to to survive a cunning game of cat and mouse as you navigate your way through the darkness of the infamous Camp at Crystal Lake, through the woods to find the safety of the cabins (insert evil laugh). Good news is you won’t need to pack any bug spray, as you will have bigger problems on your hands. My advise, watch your step and your back!
Devil’s Drop Tower: Take the 90-foot plunge into the air for the scream of your life.
Stage 48: Script to Scream: Always one of my favorite stops during a visit to the WB Studios. Current exhibit features the fascinating world of Tim Burton. See authentic props and costumes from his iconic movies Sweeney Todd, The Corpse Bride, Mars Attacks! and for the first time ever on display at Warner Bros., original props from the Halloween classic, Beetlejuice. Don’t say his name 3 times!
Horror Makeup Demonstrations: Learn how makeup artists bring terrifying characters to life with special Horror Made Here SFX makeup demonstrations throughout the night.
The Lost Boys Arcade: Get your old school gaming on in the retro Lost Boys-themed arcade. Games include titles like Ms. Pac-Man, Tetris, Mario Bros, Space Invaders and Terminator 2 Pinball.
Horror Made Here Night Tour: Need a breather from all the screaming and running? Board a quick nighttime tour through the Warner Bros.’ backlot for a guided exploration behind-the-scenes in horror entertainment, including iconic filming locations like New York Street, where House of Wax was shot. Be sure to pack some bug spray kids as your final destination will be Camp Crystal Lake.
Script to Scream at Stage 48 is a self guided part of the evening that is always a highlight for me when I visit. They change up the displays throughout the year and offer several green screen interactive photo opportunities. This Halloween season it features some of Tim Burtons best movies with costumes from Sweeney Todd, Beetlejuice and Mars Attacks! along with the Corpse Bride figures. These costumes worn by actors Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in the 1994 film An Interview with a Vampire on display at Stage 48: Script to Scream as well.
Between mazes be sure to check out the notorious Warner Bros.’ leading ladies, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford as they battle for the spotlight on the main stage in their parody performance. Allusia (starring as Bette) and Cupcake Canne (starring as Joan).
So is it worth it? This fun event on the backlot costs the same as their normal tour so if you are a horror movie fan and have been wanting to go on their tour I say it's totally worth it. Plan on spending most of the evening at the lot to experience everything. Be sure to sit in on or even volunteer for the Horror Makeup Demonstrations, they are always looking for fresh victims.
Adulting (and screaming) can be hard work. Visit the Fangtasia Bar as featured in the HBO series True Blood, as they will be serving regular drinks for humans and “Tru-Blood” for vampires. 21 and over only!
